Abortion Rights In The United States
Norma McCorvey became pregnant in 1969 and sought an abortion to save her life. In her home state of Texas, abortion was deemed illegal. District Attorney Henry Wade would soon find a lawsuit filed against him on the grounds that those laws were were unconstitutional.
From the US District Court in Texas to The Supreme Court of the United States. the judges would rule in favor of McCorvey, know also as “Jane Roe”. This protected a women’s right to choose an abortion without infringement on all levels of government.
Almost 50 years later, The Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe v. Wade by a 5-4 majority. This led to mass protests around the country, with reproductive rights now in the hands of state legislature.
