About
Derek C. French is a New Jersey-based photographer originally from the dark desert highways of Southern California.
Emotion in still imagery will ensures much will been said without a single word spoken. Stepping out of the quarantine quarters we created for ourselves during the pandemic, we found our familiar communities as unfamiliar as Apollo 11 astronauts did the surface of our baren moon. Our outlook on life changed, whether to regain the solace isolation brought us or to rekindle relationships so we would never experience those emotions again.
I am here to capture “the beauty in the barrenness of the moon”, the emotions we fail to notice or that break behind the wall we hide them behind. It is what connects us to better understand each other. My passion, after cementing myself in demonstrations, would strike a partnership with wire services like Shutterstock Editorial, Imago, and SOPA. This would soon lead my work to be featured in The Times, Washington Post, Rolling Stones, New York Post, The Gothamist and new agencies overseas.
