The United Nations emerged from the bones of the League of Nations after it failed in preventing another global conflict. After World War II,it was tasked with preventing future conflicts and fostering international cooperation through various initiatives and conferences.
The United Nations Charter is based on principles of sovereignty, peacekeeping, human rights, and development. It marked a significant step forward in global governance and remains an essential instrument for international cooperation.
As certain as death and taxes, times continue to change and sometimes in the direction no one hopes. Climate change threatens a number of nations where action can no longer be confined to rules on paper. The web of allyship and animosity stretching between nations makes the reality of another global conflict seem closer than ever. The current & newly appointed ambassadors head towards the 78th General Assembly with the goal ensuring all nations’ decisions can have significant weight on the global stage.
